Design has a powerful role to play in how we understand and value the natural world. When complex ideas are communicated clearly and thoughtfully, they are far more likely to inspire awareness, care, and action.
For the Meath Biodiversity Action Plan 2025–2030, I worked with Meath County Council to develop the visual design and a series of symbolic wildlife illustrations that support and enrich the plan’s messaging. I was invited to create artwork in a similar vein to the cover illustration I produced for Wild Wonders, an anthology of short nature stories for children — work rooted in storytelling, symbolism, and a strong connection to nature.
Working closely with the council’s biodiversity officer, key natural elements and their overall composition were outlined, and I translated these into a cohesive visual language that brings the plan to life. The illustrations aim to make the document more approachable and engaging, while reinforcing the importance of biodiversity protection at a local level.
It was a pleasure to contribute to a project that uses design as a tool for positive environmental impact and long-term ecological thinking in County Meath.
